Found is a new NBC drama from Nkechi Okoro Carroll. It features Shanola Hampton in the role of Gabi Mosely, a specialist in locating missing individuals who possesses a unique talent for handling public relations. Gabi operates a boutique agency that focuses on tracking down people that the D.C. police don't prioritize, including Black youngsters and undocumented laborers. Drawing parallels to Olivia Pope from "Scandal," Gabi is a problem-solver who has gathered a diverse team, each member possessing distinct skills and carrying their own emotional burdens.
We see two timelines: What happened to Gabi when she was taken and held captive in 2003, and the present day. Gabi has assembled a team of individuals who, in their own words, could be described as vigilantes, each harboring a personal connection to the trauma of abduction. Among them is an ambitious law student, Lacey Quinn (Gabrielle Walsh), an emotionally reserved private investigator, Dhan Rana (Karan Oberoi) a specialist in behavioral analysis, Margaret Reed (Kelli Williams) and an agoraphobic tech genius, Zeke Wallace (Arlen Escarpeta) who helps the team from his home. Additionally, there's Detective Mark Trent (Brett Dalton) who effectively serves as the intermediary between the DCPD and Mosley & Associates.
Found places a spotlight on cases involving individuals from marginalized communities. The initial victims include a young Black girl, an elderly Black man with a male admirer, and a sex worker. Interestingly, it's the female characters who primarily shoulder the emotional weight throughout most of the cases. Kelli Williams delivers a profoundly heart-wrenching performance as a mother struggling to move forward after her son's disappearance. On the other hand, Gabrielle Walsh, whose character shares a special connection with Gabi revealed at the pilot's conclusion, injects much-needed lightness into an otherwise weighty narrative.
Also at the pilot's conclusion is a major plot twist that will be very interesting to watch unfold throughout the season. All in all, Found is a compelling new procedural drama and with very few new shows on the air this fall season, it has a chance to stand out.
