Review: Acapulco - Season 2, Episode 3

This week in Las Colinas, Isabel is the bright spot in Maximo’s life. Sara is sad about her breakup, Maximo is still having to hand over half his tips to Hector, and tipping off the reporter is no doubt going to come back to haunt Maximo.

Isabel asks Maximo out on a date with tickets to Lucha Libre, which he loves. He happily accepts, and Isabel informs them her parents will be excited to “finally” meet him. He talks it over with Memo, who warns him that Isabel has a big family – which scares Maximo. Lorena tells Maximo to get it together, and if he isn’t ready to date Isabel then he needs to tell her.

A flock of Chads descend on Las Colinas as Chad’s frat brothers find out he’s engaged. When Hector embarrasses him in front of his buddies, he enlists Maximo to make him look good. Maximo proceeds to enlist Memo, who declines as the Chads scare him. To be fair, they creep me out too. Julia is unimpressed by the Chads, as all they do is tell drinking stories.. Julia? Run.

In Don Pablo and Diane’s absence, an investor showed up and toured the facilities, leading to projected budget cuts for Diane. The investor also wants to lose the iconic pool singers, which would be a shame as they bring the fun to the show. Sadly for them, they get transferred to the laundry to work for Lupe.

Memo finds an audience in the Chad squad, as he accidentally realizes they love it when he makes fun of Chad. Which is great for him, until Chad returns and finds out Memo is doing the exact opposite of what he told him to do. Maximo takes Lorena’s advice and goes to see Isabel. While trying to get out of their date, he is spotted by Isabel’s father who summons the whole family to meet Maximo on the spot. A great comedic scene as poor Maximo looks like a deer in the headlights. With no way of backing out of the date in front of the whole family, Maximo ends up helping with the dishes and becomes a server for the family restaurant while he’s there. Oops!

The Chads live up to their collective name by playing a rowdy game of beer pong. It’s so nice to see Memo accepted as “one of the guys” as it’s clear he thrives on the attention of friends and loves to tell stories. Chad threatens to kick him out for making fun of him, but Memo expresses it was only in jest and that he feels he never really gets a chance to be the star of a group – which is true. Chad later realizes he doesn’t care what his friends think, and lets Memo have his moment in the sun. Proud of him,

Diane and Don Pablo hate the new classical music the investors have chosen. After trying to talk sense into the investor’s assistant and failing, Don Pablo comes through for the win by telling the assistant they will tell his wife about his affair if he does not get his boss to reinstate the Spanish pop singers. Go Don Pablo! I love the friendship between him and Diane. Adriana and Augusto are happily reinstated as pool singers, much to their relief and Lupe’s.

Meanwhile, Maximo realizes he loves helping out at Isabel’s family restaurant – maybe more than he enjoys working at Las Colinas. He feels happy and appreciated, like he’s part of the family already. That escalated quickly! I think Maximo surprised himself by realizing there were places out there that would treat him a lot better than Los Colinas. The episode ends on a sweet note for Isabel and Maximo, and I love seeing them happy.
